Lucy AI Profile Feature

Profile Side Bar (2).png

Lucy AI, a dedicated answer engine for connecting industry experts, released the 4th edition of their tool with an emphasis on collaborative features.

At the time, Lucy 4 had no user profile page. This UX project provides users with a designated page to update profile preferences and explores future enhancements to the Lucy asking experience.

Collecting this data allows Lucy to accurately provide information to users about the people in their organization.

Understand Lucy

The first step in creating the profile feature was to dive into the existing state of the profile section on the old Lucy 3 UI.

The existing UI allows users to create and manage their profiles and preferences in two different sections of the app. The two sections needed to be consolidated.

Leveraging my app research and product curiosities, I turned to my product managers to give me direction on the vision and scope of the project.

This project's goal was to understand and explore the strategic direction of People Search. This new question format leverages user's information to provide search results to connect industry experts.

In Layman's terms, if you ask Lucy a question regarding an expert at your company, Lucy will provide you with the name of the person who is best suited to answer your question.

My project focused on the creation of the profile page and served as the starting point for People Search.

Goal Creation

After meeting with the product management team, I created a goal matrix to determine project priorities. I presented these back to the team to ensure we were all on the same base with my project.

Five major goals were established and prioritized accordingly:

Additionally each goal's underlying context was outlined along with the acceptance criteria needed to ensure the final product was measurable.

Each goal was also mapped by utility and delight to determine how important they were to users. This helped to ensure users' priorities were being met.

After the goals were created and approved, I felt comfortable moving forward with the scope of the project. This organization was a helpful reference point for me as I moved forward with profile design.

Profile Planning

I researched common profile features that would provide Lucy with information to return valuable search results. Additionally I compiled research on other products' profile pages to determine the information that users would feel comfortable sharing.

Additionally, I ran a 90 minute design discussion with the customer success team with three main goals:

  • Explore what profiles and communities could look like in Lucy over the next year

  • Gain experience with running a design discussion

  • Validate design decisions and create strategic direction for People Search within Lucy

The customer success team provided feedback about how Lucy could be used in the future. Brainstorming future uses helped during the prototyping phase because it outlined the shape Lucy needed to be for future expansions.

Profile Parody

Leveraging all of the research and brainstorming, I divergently explored navigational styles.

I chose to use the scrollable profile UI as it allowed an expandable module system for the future. After this choice I explored several different ways to display the information.

Upon design approval from my PM, I logged and specced a ticket in Jira to get the new page created. I then followed my ticket as the page was created ensuring each user touchpoint was correctly coded.

Overall, this project was a beautiful introduction into how UI features are intentionally developed and implemented. Lucy's new UI was in need of a profile page that allowed users to have a sense of identity and belonging within the platform. Additionally, the new profile page allows for the strategic expansion of People Search within Lucy moving forward.
